Enhancing Life with Chronic Pain with a Wearable Endorphin Stimulator

Remedee Labs aims to improve the quality of life for individuals living with chronic pain by developing a comprehensive, patient-centric digital platform featuring the first wearable electronic endorphin stimulator.

Remedee Labs

The company and product

Remedee Labs is a pioneering French medtech company developing non-pharmacological treatments for chronic pain. Founded by experts in medical micro- and nanotechnology, the company addresses a global health challenge–nearly 1.5 billion people suffer from chronic pain.

Building on 10 years of pre-clinical and clinical research, Remedee Labs developed the world’s first endorphin stimulator wristband approved as a CE-marked medical device (Class IIa) in Europe. This innovative wearable is at the core of a patient-centered digital platform that supports long-term pain management.

The Remedee solution combines the wristband with a personalized mobile app, expert-led content, human support, and ongoing symptom tracking, offering a holistic, tech-driven approach to chronic pain care.

The Challenge

Remedee Labs faced significant technical and design challenges while developing their groundbreaking wearable endorphin stimulator.

The team needed to build native mobile applications for both iOS and Android platforms that could seamlessly communicate with a highly experimental IoT device that had never existed before.

Creating an intuitive user interface and experience proved particularly complex, as the design had to perfectly align with the physical product's unique capabilities while ensuring that any software changes wouldn't compromise the integrity of ongoing clinical trials.

Additionally, the team had to carefully manage power consumption during software communication to ensure the wearable device could function for extended periods without charging.

Key challenges

1.
Building native iOS and Android apps for a highly experimental IoT device.
2.
Designing a user experience aligned with the physical product's unique capabilities.
3.
Optimizing battery usage consumption from software communication.

The Process

Through a collaborative product development process (including daily meetings) and a visit to the Grenoble research center, we created a framework focused on creating a comprehensive user experience that would support patients at every step of their endorphin stimulation journey.

To deliver a more personalized experience, we utilized machine learning algorithms that adapt to each individual's unique lifestyle patterns. By syncing with Apple Health and Google Fit, the app tailors stimulation sessions based on real-time inputs like sun exposure, sleep patterns, wristband usage, and activity levels.

The product was continuously refined based on insights from ongoing clinical studies. We ensured each update added value to patients managing chronic pain, stress, or sleep issues.

The Outcome

Remedee Labs received native mobile applications that integrate seamlessly with Remedee’s wearable device, creating a unique solution for pain treatment. Their endorphin stimulator became the first CE-marked medical device (class IIa) approved for the treatment of fibromyalgia in Europe.

A wristband transmits millimeter waves to release endorphins, natural painkillers produced by every human being. A personalized Remedee app connected to a digital platform enables users to monitor their state and learn about their condition through community support and a series of specialist-approved articles.

The FDA granted Remedee Labs a Breakthrough Device designation, while two clinical trials have demonstrated the effectiveness of Remedee Labs’ technology as a treatment for chronic pain caused by osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.

The success of this project hinged on the following factors:

  • Leveraging Machine Learning to personalize the application.

  • Adapting to clinical study results and new product requirements.

  • Focusing on user experience and extending personalized features.

  • Establishing Bluetooth Low Energy connections for the multiple Remedee devices.

  • Collaborative product development process.
