The Challenge
Elvie recognized that traditional pelvic floor training lacked proper guidance and feedback, leaving users uncertain about their technique and progress.
Monterail supported this vision by tackling three critical technical challenges.
The goal was to develop a native mobile application for both iOS and Android platforms that would enable users to track their progress through an intuitive and user-friendly interface.
We needed to establish a reliable development framework using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to enable real-time biofeedback between the physical device and mobile app. In addition, we needed to adapt the core technology to provide users with six different exercise types across four difficulty levels, creating a personalized training experience.

The Process
Monterail launched a three-phase transformation that would redefine women's health technology and improve the Elvie Trainer user experience.
Phase one consisted of a foundation rebuilt with a comprehensive source code audit that exposed Elvie's fragile prototype.
Monterail systematically reconstructed it into a robust, scalable platform that extended far beyond the original vision. Phase two was focused on connectivity.
We engineered Bluetooth connectivity between device and app, ensuring proper data collection while implementing security that protected users' most intimate health information.
In phase three, Monterail delivered real-time biofeedback technology that instantly transforms invisible muscle movements into personalized exercise coaching.
This is how we made it happen:
Source code audit and extending already existing apps.
Improving device connectivity and overall data security.
Developing unique app features, such as app’s real-time guidance of using biofeedback to track exercise progress.
Elvie Trainer Application
The Outcome
Elvie Trainer addresses a widespread problem of millions of women globally with an intelligent biofeedback technology and a robust mobile app. Effective Kegel exercises can now happen anywhere, with real-time guidance and progress tracking.
Elvie received a native mobile app for iOS and Android that seamlessly connects with the trainer device. The app synchronizes using advanced BLE technology and provides consistent biofeedback functionalities with personalized exercise coaching.
The launch of the Elvie Trainer marked the beginning of the company's dynamic growth, expanding from around 10 employees in 2014 to over 250 people by 2025.
Elvie has become a FemTech market leader and the product won multiple prestigious awards, including The Europas 2017, Red Dot Design Award 2016, and Maternity Magazine Award 2017. Industry recognition continues with more than 15 awards, plus endorsements from leading publications like TechCrunch and Ella Magazine.
The success of this project hinged on the following factors:
Finding a strong product-market fit and brand differentiation.
Delivering a native mobile app with a user-friendly design that makes intimate wellness accessible.
Engineering advanced pelvic floor biofeedback technology.
Seamless hardware-software integration.
Embedded data security and user-centric UX from the ground up.
