Designing a Holistic App for Endometriosis Care

To support women with the historically underserved medical condition of endometriosis, we designed a holistic app for Lyv. Our deep user research was the foundation for the app's concept, roadmap, and prototype, directly addressing the complex needs of this community.

The company and product

Lyv addresses endometriosis, a condition affecting millions worldwide yet historically remaining medically overlooked and underserved.

The Lyv Endo app offers digital therapy, complementing the traditional treatment path. The app centralizes a team and resources to better understand the disease, target symptoms, and alleviate the burden the disease places on your daily life.

The Challenge

The Lyv's vision was to create a holistic digital support system addressing the complex physical, mental, and social well-being challenges that patients face, tackling an area of FemTech often left invisible.

The project started with little information about the users – the needs of women with endometriosis are often overlooked in the medical field. The primary challenge was designing with deep empathy for this underserved user group.

The important part was the ideation of the mobile application’s scope. Because endometriosis impacts physical, mental, and social well-being, the list of potential features was vast. This made prioritizing those features the central task. Finally, because the condition remains poorly researched, the team had to validate foundational assumptions from scratch rather than relying on existing data.

Key challenges

1.
Leading the ideation of the mobile application’s scope and prioritizing features.
2.
Iteratively defining the core functionalities for the MVP.
3.
Balancing a holistic (physical, mental, and social) product vision with the needs of MVP.

The Process

We began with thorough market research to understand the landscape of endometriosis and the needs of users.

The team then focused on building a reliable, up-to-date endometriosis knowledge base that would serve as the foundation for the platform.

Next, we created a Product Acceleration Workshops plan designed to explore different approaches to the complex subject matter while maximizing value for users. Throughout the entire development process, the team prioritized user experience and users' needs at every stage, ensuring the final product would truly serve the endometriosis community.

The Outcome

From an idea to a first version of the product.

The cooperation delivered concrete results for Lyv. Monterail identified user needs for a previously unanalyzed group and established a clearly defined application scope. Lyv received a ready-to-use development roadmap and strategy to move forward.

Three key factors made this project successful:

  • Deep User Research. We completed thorough research that pinpointed exactly what the target audience needs from a digital health tool.

  • Tested App Concept: We validated the core app idea through a working prototype, confirming they were headed in the right direction.

  • Clear Development Path. We developed a well-defined app scope and a comprehensive development roadmap, making the concept ready for building.
