Challenges

Building a cross-platform solution with React Native and native enhancements.

The project required developing a high-performance mobile application that works seamlessly across iOS and Android platforms while handling hundreds of thousands of simultaneous users.

The solution needed to support Beryl's growing in-house team with a mature, scalable architecture.

This is how we made it happen:

  • Using React Native and minor native enhancements (especially in NFC technology) to build an app that works on all devices, from low-end to high-end smartphones.

  • Creating a mature architecture to develop additional features on the side of Beryl's growing in-house team.

  • The partnership included app development, product development, and testing & quality assurance.

  • The result was a scalable, performant mobile application for a bike-sharing system.

The Outcome

Through our partnership, Beryl received a production-ready mobile application enabling accessible, sustainable transportation for communities across the UK.

The delivered solution provided Beryl with a robust, scalable platform that served as the digital gateway to sustainable urban mobility.

The mature architecture of the mobile application enabled their in-house team to work confidently and efficiently, accelerating time-to-market for new capabilities while maintaining code quality and performance standards.

Most importantly, the application directly supported Beryl's mission as a B-Corp certified company: putting people, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability at the forefront of business operations while building a financially sustainable model for urban mobility transformation.

The success of this project hinged on the following factors:

  • Scalable React Native architecture handling hundreds of thousands of simultaneous users across iOS and Android platforms.

  • Designing different schemes of using Beryl, from station-based to stand-alone bike schemes.

  • Native enhancements in NFC technology ensuring reliable bike unlocking on all device types, from low-end to high-end smartphones.

  • Mature, maintainable architecture enabling Beryl's in-house team to develop additional features efficiently.
